Hanbok Dress Up

Dressing up in a Hanbok to visit the palaces is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Korean culture. Renting a Hanbok near the palaces even grants you free entry to the five palaces, and it’s not considered cultural appropriation—in fact, it’s encouraged as a way to show respect for the historic sites you’re visiting. Hanboks are typically worn by locals on special occasions, so this experience offers a glimpse into traditional attire. You can rent a Hanbok for 2 hours, half a day, or a full day. While fancier Hanboks may come with a surcharge, even with upgrades like a matching purse or an elaborate updo (which I did), you won’t break the bank. Expect to spend around $12 USD for this delightful experience.

Get your Hanbok rental and experience this yourself.

Korean Walking Food Tour

The ultimate way to ensure you don’t miss any of the delicious Korean dishes that have made this cuisine so popular—especially if you’re visiting for only a few days—is by booking a food tour like we did.

Not only will you have the chance to try many of the items I mention in my Korean cuisine highlights article, but you’ll also experience them with a local guide who can share her top recommendations and educate you about Korean culture. It’s fun, it saves time, and you’ll leave with a full stomach. What more could you ask for?!

Activity Tip: You’ll try 12 items, and the portions are big, so come on an empty stomach and plan to make this a meal during your visit!

Pamper Yourself K-Beauty Style

Many visitors include Korean beauty treatments as part of their trip, and I agree it’s a must while in Seoul. Not only are the treatments more affordable than elsewhere, but you can also benefit from tax refunds to save even more.

With so many options available, it’s wise to browse treatments in advance. During your visit, the nurse practitioner will ask and recommend the best options for you. I visited Muse Clinic for my treatments and found them to be very professional; I would gladly return if I find myself in Seoul again.

Activity Tip: Allow at least 3 hours for your K-beauty treatments and clinic visit as you don’t want to rush this part of your trip.

K-Beauty Shopping Spree

Be sure to visit Olive Young while you’re in Seoul—it’s a major hub for Korean beauty brands and the local equivalent of Sephora. Popular with both tourists and locals, Olive Young offers a wide range of skincare, makeup, and beauty products. With K-beauty products being incredibly popular, you’ll find top k-brands like Innisfree, Cosrx and Torriden which should be on your shopping list. Whether you’re looking to stock up on your favorite brands or discovering new ones, like I did, Olive Young is a must-visit destination. Don’t forget to bring your passport to take advantage of the tax-free shopping available.

Activity Tip: To explore the full range of items they offer, visit a flagship Olive Young. It might be overwhelming, but the extensive selection is definitely worth it. I found a few gems that I’m still thrilled about!
