As I embarked on my journey of Latina Cultural Adventures in Anchorage, I felt a long-held dream come to life. I had always imagined visiting Alaska, a U.S. state that seemed so different from my own backyard in Chicago and Manchester. It certainly lived up to my expectations. The breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and stunning wildlife captivated me from the moment the plane was landing in Anchorage.

It was heartwarming to see the presence of Latinos in Alaska. Showing that we always find a way to pop up and build our community wherever we go.

As a solo traveler, I would recommend visiting Alaska with someone else to fully appreciate the sights and experiences here. Many tours require a minimum of two people. This was why I chose to wait until I could travel with a group. This allowed me to enjoy the various activities that Alaska has to offer.

In this guide, I’ll share my firsthand experiences exploring Anchorage’s most captivating cultural and outdoor activities. Proving that Alaska is both a refreshing and enriching destination for Latinas looking to discover new horizons.

For Latina travelers seeking adventure, Eklutna Lake, a turquoise lake encircled by dramatic mountains, offers several unforgettable outdoor experiences. With Alaska ATV Adventures or Lifetime Adventure, you can choose your desired activities, including kayaking, ATV riding, hiking, and biking. I did the ATV, kayak, and lunch bespoke tour, which included round-trip transport from Anchorage. The day ended perfectly with my favorite campsite dessert, a tasty s’more by the fire.

Tips: Outdoor active wear is required, and a lakeside grilled lunch is included. However, note that these tours aren’t ADA accessible, so plan accordingly!

Scenic Turnagain Arm Tour & Wildlife Conservation Center

Head along Turnagain Arm, a coastline famous for breathtaking mountain views, dramatic tides, and even the chance to spot beluga whales. With this tour you get to enjoy a scenic drive with stops for incredible photo ops. The highlight of this tour for me was seeing a bald eagle for the first time at the center and getting to feed a cute porcupine. The tour provides a guided tour from one of the staff members of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. They share insights on the animals and wildlife in Alaska, which is really useful to better grasp how unique Alaska is. If you choose not to do the tour you can still visit on your own. Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center Admission is $25.

Must-Visit Anchorage Foodie Spots For Latinx Travelers

Anchorage may be known for its rugged wilderness, but it also boasts a vibrant foodie scene. Its culinary scene is a surprising gem for Latinx travelers, combining local seafood with international cuisines. Here’s my guide to Anchorage’s must-visit foodie spots from a Latina who loves sazon.

  • Saverio’s: Cozy, family-owned Italian restaurant with handmade pasta and wood-fired pizzas.
  • Bear Tooth: Sister pizza spot to Moose Tooth, known for delicious, generously topped pizzas. Locals go here to skip the lines at the tourist Moose Tooth and say the quality of pizza is even better.
  • Glacier Brewhouse: Seafood spot serving fresh halibut and smoked salmon dip in a welcoming setting.
  • 49th State Brewing: Casual eatery pairing seafood with locally brewed beers and rooftop views.
  • Club Paris: Renowned steakhouse famous for perfectly cooked steaks and an old-school vibe.
  • Orso: Stylish spot known for happy hour deals with small bites and cocktails.

  • Glen Alps Point – A convenient and accessible spot for Anchorage visitors.
  • Point Woronzoff – Offers a beautiful view of the lights against Anchorage’s skyline.
  • Reflections Lake – Just a 20-minute drive from Anchorage, this serene lake adds a magical touch to your Northern Lights experience.

Pro Tip: Download the My Aurora Forecast & Alerts app on Apple or Android to receive real-time notifications on when and where to see the lights. Don’t forget to enable location settings for the most accurate alerts!

  1. That is an interesting adventure in Anchorage. There are a lot of activities and tours that can make someone feel overwhelmed with all the choices. I am glad I read your experience and suggestions. I have never seen the northern light in person, so that would be my top choice. It seems like the view at Reflection’s Lake is good enough to keep someone coming again.

I would really love to try some Italian food at Saverio’s and Glacier Brewhouse seafood seems to be a good options as well. Enjoy reading the post. Thanks.
