Did this Latina Travel blogger plan a full trip to the Baltics only to walk Latvia’s Therapeutic Barefoot Trail? Yes, I did and I would highly recommend you include this unique Barefoot Trail during your visit to the Baltics, Latvia, etc.
A local favorite in Latvia that many tourists may miss because not much has been written about this one-of-a-kind forest experience in the Latvia’s Ķemeri National Park…until now!

Barefoot Trail – Must Do Activity

What To Expect From A Barefoot Trail
| You will experience walking across an array of natural surfaces like pebbles, cones, moss and even Kemeri mud (my favorite). Barefoot walks are said to provide many health benefits including blood circulating faster, strengthening ligaments, muscles and helping with stress relief. |
Why You Should Visit Kemeri National Park
| If visiting Latvia, visit Ķemeri National Park and the Barefoot Trail. This is a great 1/2 day visit from Riga. Experiencing different sensations on your feet is a mix of good and bad but both my friend and I ended the Barefoot Trail feeling on cloud 9 . We both agreed this was better than a full body massage. |
Other Activities Beyond The Barefoot Trail
| In addition to the Barefoot trail you will also find a colorful Art Trail (Included in the cost of your entry to the Barefoot trail), a spa bath (offered at an additional charge) post your walk, a hotel and cafe. Explore more of Kemeri National Park’s nature with these recommended Kemeri National Park Tours. |
Latvia Therapeutic Barefoot Trail Tips
| This is a seasonal trail that operates between the months of April – October. (Email Valguma Pasaule for exact dates before planning your visit.) Entry prices are reasonable enough that even budget backpackers can enjoy this activity. The trail is open from 9am – 6pm. I recommend doing this activity around lunch time opposed to in the evening as it does get dark sooner in this area of the country. Especially in the fall. Email Valguma Pasaule Hotel in advance to check on the trail the day before your visit as weather such as rain could cause sections of the trail to flood for example. Indulge in the spa bath offered at an additional cost post the Barefoot Trail. It’s a simple nature indulgence to soak your feet, enjoy a cozy tea in nature and melt into blissful relaxation. The hotel has a small cafe restaurant on site called, “Panorama”, that offers some simple but tasty dishes but you could also pack a lunch. |
How To Get Here
| Drive (1 hour) | Renting a car to make the 1 hour drive if you have a group would be recommended. |
| Train + Ride (1 hour 15 minutes) | This option requires a bit of pre-planning with Valguma Pasaule, but far more affordable and environmentally friendly. Take a train from Riga Central Train Station to Smarde and coordinate with Valguma Pasaule to pick you up. They will go the extra mile and drop you off at the Smarde train station once you are ready to return to Riga. How nice are they! |
Final Note

| A BIG thank you to the staff at Valguma Pasaule, without this hotel, we would have found it difficult to make our visit possible. If you have the time, I would suggest staying here to truly slow down and relax. Check rates and book Valguma Pasaule for your visit to Ķemeri National Park in Latvia. |
