Mykonos in August is loud, busy, and unapologetic. And that’s exactly why we went for a Peak-Summer Mykonos Girls Weekend.

This was a girls trip. Thursday afternoon arrival. Sunday afternoon departure. Ten of us, ready to experience Mykonos at its peak. Long lunches that turned into parties, late nights at the top hot spots in the island, slow mornings by our villa pool, and absolutely zero regrets.

If you’re wondering whether a girls trip to Mykonos in August is worth it, here’s how we did it and why I would do it again.

If it’s your first time visiting Mykonos, especially in peak season, keep these useful tips in mind when planning your own trip to this Greek island:

Peak summer means peak crowds and peak costs.
Traveling with friends ups the fun and helps offset expenses.
Inland stays paired with scooters, iMove or pre-booked cars leave more budget for indulgences.
Don’t skip grilled octopus, lamb, or lobster risotto. Just be wary of portions and the up sell by restaurant staff.
Book ferries, restaurants, car rides and accommodations early for July and August trips.
Nights start late (11 PM onward), so pace your days accordingly.
Three nights is the sweet spot if you want to party. Long enough to enjoy the island, short enough to avoid burnout. (Rest at home mentality)
Mykonos isn’t shy about showing off. And honestly, neither should you. Plan your outfits as such.

My fashion goal was summer old money. Think flowy linen and summer colors that suit my skin. Quiet luxury that looks like I spent my afternoon on the boat. I chose pieces for cut and fabric, not logos. Yes, some pieces I wore were expensive, but only those who know, know.

Mykonos Villa Life > Mykonos Hotel Life

We stayed at Ilior Retreat Mykonos and villa life truly made this trip.

Having space mattered. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom, including a guesthouse. The pool caught the sun from morning to evening. Lounges were perfect for lazy mornings and late-night chats. Daily housekeeping meant no chores and no stress.

One thing that stood out was having a manager who actually checked in on us, not just at check-in and check-out. It made the stay feel easy and well looked after.

The private chef option was a game changer. Authentic Mediterranean meals, served family-style, and generous enough that we had leftovers for snacking throughout the weekend.

TIP
If you’re traveling with a group, a villa is the way to go in Mykonos. If visiting with fewer people, I’d recommend looking at boutique hotels or apartment-style stays that offer similar amenities. Agoda is a good place to compare options that give you space, comfort, and a bit of that villa feel without needing a large group.

Thursday: Arrival And A Private Chef

We arrived Thursday afternoon and intentionally kept the first night calm.

Dinner was cooked for us at the villa by our private chef. (Booked directly with villa) It was the perfect way to unwind after travel, enjoy locally produced Greek food, and actually spend time together without rushing to a reservation.

The food was served sharing-style in the outdoor dinning area and there was plenty of it. Enough that we had leftovers for the rest of the weekend, which came in handy for late-night snacks and slow mornings.

Starting the trip this way set the tone. Relaxed, connected, and already feeling like a treat-yourself weekend.

TIP
Grab bubbles, wine and alchol at Duty Free or use Wolt the popular app in Greece that delivers groceries and food from local restaurant to your villa/hotel.

Friday: Poolside Mornings And Cliffside Lunch

Friday morning was slow in the best way.

Breakfast was cooked by our chef again. Some of us worked out in the garden, others stayed poolside doing absolutely nothing. Mykonos nights start late, so giving yourself space in the mornings is key.

Lunch at Spilia Mykonos was one of those meals that turned into an experience.

We booked a 3 PM reservation, which I highly recommend. Arriving earlier lets you enjoy the food before the music starts to pick up later in the afternoon.

A few Spilia tips if you’re planning to go:
Come early so lunch can naturally roll into sunset drinks.
Portions are generous, so sharing dishes is the move. (Don’t go overboard on the fish order. We accidentally paid 500 EUR for fish because the server sent us off)
The grilled octopus is a must.
Dress chic but comfortable since it’s a beach setting
It’s perfect for birthdays or group celebrations

We came for a friend’s birthday and ended up staying all afternoon. Sea views, great food, and the kind of energy Mykonos does best.

Dinner that night was at Interni in Mykonos Town. We booked a late reservation so we could easily transition into the party portion of the night with a table. It does get packed, and dancing mostly happens at your table once you’re seated. Tables can also be delayed, so patience helps. It’s lively, social, and very Mykonos.

Saturday: Old Town Wandering And Scorpios Party

Saturday morning we headed into Mykonos Old Town for sightseeing and shopping.

A few things to know about getting around Old Town:

Old Town is busy, especially in August, but it’s worth seeing during the day before the nightlife takes over.

In the afternoon, we took a 15 to 20 minute private Mykonos boat ride to Scorpios. It’s not the cheapest option, but it is easily the most fun way to arrive. The anticipation builds before you even step off the boat.

We planned a late lunch that turned into sunset drinks and the night party. Scorpios is special because it blends music, setting, and atmosphere in a way that feels intentional. It’s less about rushing and more about settling into the moment.

Dress code matters here. Think elevated, flowy, beach-appropriate, but polished.

One thing to keep in mind: when the party winds down shortly after midnight, getting an iMove can take time since everyone is leaving at once. Plan for that and stay patient.

We ended the night back at a villa with a post-party hang, which honestly felt just as special as being out.

Sunday: Slow Goodbye

Peak-Summer Mykonos Girls Weekend

Sunday was quiet and exactly what we needed.

We spent the morning at the villa, hanging by the pool, finishing leftovers, and soaking in the last moments before heading to the airport. No rushing. No squeezing in one last plan.

Three nights was the perfect amount of time.

Why August Is Worth It

Peak-Summer Mykonos Girls Weekend

Yes, Mykonos in peak season is crowded and expensive. But it’s also when the island fully shows up. Traveling with friends offsets costs and makes Peak-Summer Mykonos Girls Weekend indulgences easier. This girl’s trip reminded me that some places are not about doing everything cheaply. They are about doing it fully!
