See my #Lifeinabag list of items for Iceland below. These are the items I brought with me during the 9-day trip. The key was layering up for the cold temperature and repeating outfits. I didn’t have to wash clothes during the trip but any longer of a trip then I would have certainly done a wash.

Iceland Travel Tips

Money Accepted: Credit cards are accepted in most places but it certainly doesn’t hurt to have cash in hand as the Ring Road will feel at times very remote.
Safety In Iceland:This Latina chica and her adventure-loving amiga felt completely safely navigating Iceland’s rugged landscapes and remote camping spots by camper van.
Friendly To Tourists/Latinas: The locals we ran into, mostly people working in tourism or travelers like us, seemed pretty friendly. But we didn’t get to chat with too many Icelanders.
Length Of Stay: To explore Iceland’s Ring Road, I would recommend 1 week in the summer and 2 weeks in the winter.
Additional Tips: Scandinavian is the language spoken in Iceland with English coming as a close second so no need to brush up on any language lessons when visiting.

While I do love traveling solo, this is a country I highly recommend visiting with a +1, especially the more remote-feeling Ring Road.

Golden Circle

Discover Iceland’s famed Golden Loop with Budget Babes, an iconic trail accessible as a day trip from Reykjavik. Opting for a leisurely two-day journey, my amiga and I avoided the rush of tour groups, starting our camper van adventure at noon to stay ahead of the crowds. Amidst erupting geysers and majestic waterfalls, we relished cinematic views while stretching our budget and time to fully embrace Iceland’s natural wonders. Access our downloadable guide for insider tips.

Ring Road

Discover Iceland’s iconic Ring Road, a journey showcasing the essence of the country. Split into North, East, South, and West, each section boasts unique scenery and attractions. In mid-October, my friend and I embarked on a camper van adventure along the South and eastern parts before winter storms altered our course. While summer allows a full circumnavigation in 7-10 days, safety extends this in winter. Unable to continue, we pivoted to explore the renowned Golden Circle, yet our van trip remains a highlight of Iceland’s diverse landscapes shared with a fellow wanderer.
