Top 10 Things To Do in Riga

1.Vecriga  

Aka old town – Learn more about this area by taking part of the Old Town Free Tour. We opted for the “Alternative Free Walking Tour” which was lead by the knowledgeable, Edvart, who did an excellent job having us learn more about the city, country but gave some great recommendations to maximize our time in Riga.

2. Albert Street

The best place to take in the art nouveau architecture that can be spotted throughout the city. This particular street is covered with this style making is a great place for those instagramable pics. If you enjoy art nouveau architecture than this “Walking Tour of Riga’s Beautiful Art Nouveau Architecture” is one not to miss.

3. National Library of Latvia

I’m a sucker for a good library and the architecture of this library is one not to miss.

4. Rathausplatz Riga

This is located in the Town hall square of Riga and more popularly known as the “House of Blackheads”.

5. Three Brothers

The oldest complex of houses in Riga, dating from the 15th century. (At 17, 19 and 21 Mazā Pils Street)

6. Freedom Monument

Enjoy the surrounding park which is called Bastejkalna Parks.

7. Riga Central Market

This is the largest and most visited market in Eastern Europe. We picked up mushrooms and raspberries from here as they were in season and picked fresh from local farmers. (The bus and train station are near by.)

8. St Peter’s Church

Head up to the top of this church for the best views in Riga. TIP: This is the meeting point for “Alternative Free Walking Tour”.

9. Latvian Academy of Sciences

This building reminds me of a smaller scale of the “Empire State Building” in New York City. It’s a great place to also enjoy panoramic views of the city.
