12 Must Visit In Dublin – 2 Day Itinerary

When you become a tour guide to a city after only participating in 1 free walking tour, one would think this was impressive. Dublin is that city for me.

Regardless of how quickly you can see the top sights in Dublin as I did during my first trip to Ireland, I did a lot of cool things in the city and in the country with great people including reuniting with a friend from back home who brought me my wish list of things needed to continue my #GirltakesMundo sabbatical in 2017.

Today, I continue to visit Dublin with friends who visit me in Manchester, as I think its a great country to combine when vising England.

Best Tour To Book In Ireland

Northern Ireland Highlights Day Trip Including Giant’s Causeway from Dublin

This tour has you visit Belfast, Giant Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. If you do this tour, I recommend picking the black cab tour in Belfast over the Titanic tour (included in tour price) as you get a better understanding of the political turmoil happening first hand in Northern Ireland from those involved.

I definitely recommend day tours as it has you really leverage your day and explore outside of Dublin.

12 Must Visit / Do In Dublin

So you did the Free Dublin walking tour, now what?

Here are some of the best things to do in Dublin when you aren’t doing days trips in Ireland with tips to help you make the most out of your visit.

Beer or Whiskey

Pick your poison of choice. Mine is always whiskey.

  • Jameson Distillery
  • Guinness Storehouse
    • Gravity Bar is the rooftop bar at Guinness Storehouse which is cool and looks out over the city. (Included in your ticket)
    • Must buy tickets in advance and online.

Book of Kells at Trinity College

Disclaimer: I went to check out the illuminated manuscripts Gospel books and see the Long Hall library and even for the book and the library junkie that I am, I wouldn’t recommend this for the entry fee but still included this as I know some would still want to visit.

Live Irish Music

The Cobblestone – My favorite spot for traditional Irish music vibe. It’s in Smithfield, which is a little out of the city but this open mic style pub is where locals go to perform. It doesn’t get more authentic than this.

Oliver St. John Gogarty – A great spot to hear authentic Irish music on their 2nd floor. While it is in the Temple area which is known for tourist prices on drinks and food, the music was worth it.

South William St. – This street offers tons of more local and Irish pubs and cafes. May I suggest you start with Grogans, you can’t get any more Irish style pub then this. Guinness poured the way it should be with no music, no tv’s, just your mates to talk to or local people watch. Try their toasties to help wash down that Guinness.

TOP TIP

Looking for something more upscale for cocktails, then head to Peruke & Periwig.

Chester Beatty Library

Far better of a pick than Book of Kells and entry to the library is free. This library offers more of an exhibit and the finest collection of manuscripts and books from the private collection by mining magnate, Sir Alfred Chester Beatty.

Top Tip

Head to the rooftop to get a top view of the gardens of Dublin Castle.

Grafton Street and Brown Thomas

Always nice to walk around and do a bit of retail therapy, if you fancy it.

TOP TIP

Can’t visit Grafton Street without going to grab an ice cream in Murphys Ice Cream at some point, it’s so good.

St Stephen’s Green Park

Stunning green space in the center of Dublin and perfect to grab a takeaway lunch and picnic from here.

Green Bench Cafe is a takeaway that offers the best sandwiches, so it’s nice to grab your sandwich and eat it in St Stephen’s Green Park.
